Kensington news brief: Cinco de Mayo Festival, election forum, and food distributions

KENSINGTON FORUM: Join us for an election forum at McPherson Square Library next Monday, 4-6 p.m. The town hall Q&A forum will be open to the community, so come with your questions ready. We will have both mayoral candidates and District 7 candidates in attendance. To register, click here.

FREE SUMMER MEALS: Nutritional Development Services (NDS) provides youth programs with free breakfast and lunch from June 14 to Aug. 25. To register, call the NDS office at 215-895-3470, option 1.

KENSINGTON VOICE: It’s not too late to participate in our art contest. As candidates share their vision for the neighborhood along the campaign trail, share yours with the chance to win a $375 prize. Enter by this Friday at 11:59 p.m. Click here for more information.

FREE DISTRIBUTION: Congreso will have a free community food drive this Thursday, 12-3 p.m. The Sharing Excess-sponsored distribution is first come, first served at Congreso’s parking lot at 2800 N. American St. Bags will be available.

HEITZMAN REC: Heitzman Recreation Center’s Rebuild ribbon cutting ceremony is this Thursday at 3:45 p.m. The building will be closed for final maintenance updates until Wednesday. For more information, visit the rec center’s Facebook page.

CINCO DE MAYO: Cantina La Martina is having a Cinco de Mayo Festival this Friday, 11 am to 11 p.m. There will be Mexican street food, beverages, entertainment, and family-friendly activities. Walk-in only, no reservations.

GRAND OPENING: The Kenzo Dip, a new ice cream shop, opens this Saturday at 11 a.m. The shop is located on the corner of Kensington Avenue and Schiller Street across from Harrowgate Park. One lucky customer will receive a $500 cash prize.
