EDITOR’S NOTE

Over the last few months, many of you have contacted us about youth organizations doing big things in Kensington.

Thanks to your suggestions, we decided to publish a summer issue dedicated to Youth in Action in the neighborhood. We hope you’re as inspired as we are by everyone we’ve featured here, like these cheerleaders, Play Captains, and teens learning the life skills they need to live on their own.

We also have some unrelated but exciting news to share with you all. We are thrilled to announce that we’ve received funding through a gift given to Temple University’s Klein College by Independence Public Media Foundation. Up until this point, we have mostly supported ourselves through the volunteer work of community members, student journalists, and faculty. With this money, we are now able to do many more things:

  • Hire full-time staff to report with more depth on stories that matter to you
  • Secure a permanent space for community events
  • Expand from online to print

Some of these changes will take more time than others. We are hiring full-time staff immediately, and then we will look for community space. We hope to release our print edition at the start of next year.

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy this series of stories we published about those working to create a brighter future for youth in Kensington. We’re excited to see what the future holds, and we hope you are, too.
