After-School Soccer Coach

Kensington Soccer Club

Kensington Soccer Club is looking for a coach for their after-school program. The schedule depends on how many sites you coach. Each site is at least two days a week, usually from 3:30 to 5pm with the possibility of Saturday and evening sessions for some coaches. Kensington Soccer Club has 20 sites, with different schedules so a site can be found to fit your schedule.

Their curriculum is Soccer For Success, which incorporates health/nutrition education, anti-violence components, and mentorship along with fun soccer activities designed to build skills and teamwork.

Pay varies with experience level.

Residential Services Coordinator Maguire Residence

Project HOME

This position is at Project HOME’s new program, the Maguire Residence, located in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. The chief responsibility of the Residential Services Coordinator is to provide collaborative recovery planning and follow through with residents and supports utilizing a recovery model. These services include keeping accurate records as well as working as an advocate for the residents in connection with a team.

Community Organizer

Kensington Corridor Trust

The Kensington Corridor Trust is looking for a community organizer to join their team. The Community Organizer will conduct outreach, base building, training, education, and leadership development among residents and small business owners in Kensington. The organizer will be responsible for membership involvement in the city, state, and federal campaigns and coalitions working on issues related to our mission and equitable neighborhood development.

Requirements:

  • One to two years of previous experience working (formally or informally) in community, labor, or faith-based organizing with tangible results – i.e., number of members/leaders, campaign victories, visibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player and foster collaboration in environments with racial, ethnic, language, immigrant status, and economic diversity.
  • Resident of Kensington, Philadelphia.
  • Familiarity with the history, political, and service landscape of Kensington.
  • English and Spanish verbal and writing skills.

Pay rate: Salary is $50,000-$60,000

Manager

Franny Lou’s Porch

Franny Lou’s is currently accepting applications on a rolling basis for a manager until the role is fulfilled. Requirements for this position include access to reliable transportation, phone, and email. The job candidate must have strong communication skills, be proactive and responsive to store needs to ensure smooth management, and preferably bilingual. Start date ASAP. 

Job days: Manager schedule typically 8-4 p.m. with a break from Monday through Sunday (based on 4-5 day work week)

Youth Neighborhood Organizer Training (Internship)

YNOT Peacemakers & Urban Creators

YNOT Peacemakers is a community youth development initiative to advance racial equity, harm reduction, and overdose prevention in high-risk neighborhoods of North Philadelphia zip codes 19132 and 19133. The program tackles three main areas. 

ABCD of Harm Reduction: 

  • Asset-Based Community Development of people, places, and things to educate, engage, and empower and employ your gifts.

Service Learning

  • Help yourselves and others by working from home in your neighborhoods and communities on projects to grow your capacity.

Social Entrepreneurship: 

  • The team works with interns to develop their ideas, connect to resources, and collaborate with project partners.

YNOT Peacemakers are currently looking for interns between the ages of 15 to 24. The ideal candidate is a young person who has used drugs or has a past or present relationship with someone such as a friend, parent/caregiver, sibling, or other family members who use drugs.

Seasonal Maintenance Attendant 

Philadelphia Parks & Recreation (PPR)

PPR is currently hiring a seasonal maintenance attendant for a 6-month position to maintain and improve McPherson Square Park. Tasks include the following:

  • Pick up/gather litter and trash in the park; empty trash cans; deliver trash to a central disposal area.
  • Sweep/Shovel and clear pathways and steps
  • Trim and clear around shrubbery, trees, fences and poles
  • Shovel and remove silt and debris to clear drainage outlets
  • Report all graffiti & hazards to your supervisor
  • Pick up cuttings from beneath pruned trees
  • Pick up small branches and twigs that fall from trees; report all branches that cannot be moved to your supervisor
  • Rake and pick up leaves/debris along fence-lines
  • Wearing your safety vest is mandatory

A standard workday includes a 30-minute lunch. Discuss best work days and times with your supervisor. Your district supervisor may change your schedule if needed. By accepting this SMA position, you have agreed to work the occasional weekend days. Park SMAs still have to report to work on a rainy day. In the case of extreme weather, your supervisor will assign you to a different location.

Pay rate: $13.75 per hour, 20 hours a week

Lifeguard

Philadelphia Parks & Recreation (PPR)

PPR is hiring dozens of lifeguards for the summer as pools will reopen this year. To be considered for a position, you must pass a lifeguard screening given by a water safety instructor. You must be 15 years or older to attend a Parks & Rec lifeguard screening but you must be 16 years or older to work as a lifeguard for the City of Philadelphia.

Screening is free of charge. The lifeguard training course fees are:

Lifeguards ages 25+ who get a job at a Parks & Rec pool:  

  • Certification: $110. 
  • Recertification: $65.

Lifeguards ages 16–24 who get a job at a Parks & Rec pool: 

  • Certification: FREE. 
  • Recertification: FREE.

Pay rate: Starting salary for all Parks & Rec lifeguards is $14.75 per hour, with a salary cap of $16.97 per hour.
