Hi, neighbors. 

This is our last newsletter of the year, and we want to thank you for your continued support! It’s a big holiday week, with Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa coming up. So however and whatever you celebrate, we wish you a safe and happy holiday and a Happy New Year!  

Our staff is taking a much-needed winter break, so here’s a look at upcoming events for the weeks of Dec. 23 and Dec. 30. 

Recent News 

Washington state has one-stop shops for addiction care and recovery. Could they work in Kensington? 

The “health hub” model creates locations where anyone, regardless of insurance status, can walk in and access primary care, infectious disease care, mental health assessments and opioid use disorder treatments such as methadone and buprenorphine.

Philly correctional officers arrested for selling cell phones, Suboxone inside Curran-Fromhold jail

Two correctional officers from the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility were arrested for allegedly smuggling contraband into the jail, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced at a press conference.

Corrections officers Roderick Price and Christina Ingram face charges for profiting off the contraband.

Family of man who died in police custody after Kensington arrest demands answers

The family of Joey Gabor, who died in police custody after a Kensington drug possession arrest, called for more information during a Thursday’s Philadelphia City Council meeting.

“All we know is we have no answers,” said Gabor’s sister Leslie last week.
