Photos of Kensington: Kids gear up for school at “Classroom Kickoff” event on Frankford Avenue

The event was hosted by District 7 Councilmember Quetcy Lozada's office.

On Saturday, District 7 Councilmember Quetcy Lozada's office hosted a “Classroom Kickoff” event under the El on Frankford Avenue.

Event highlights included free haircuts from Lehigh Valley Barber and Beauty Academy, free backpacks from a backpack drive organized by the Frankford Community Development Corporation and state Rep. Jason Dawkins, plus free hot dogs from the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD), who helped with the grill.

Ceiba and the Philadelphia Digital Literacy Alliance also hosted a laptop giveaway, and City Commissioner Seth Bluestein brought a voting machine to show children and adults how voting works.

Other event vendors included APM, As I Plant a Seed, Concilio, Galaei, General Building and Contractors Association, Graduate Philly, Holland Homecare, Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia Department of Licenses and Inspections, Philadelphia Department of Revenue, Philadelphia Fire Department, Philadelphia Water Department, Philadelphia Youth Commission, Power Circle, St. Christopher's Hospital, and Turning Point.
