Don’t know where to donate your money in Kensington? Here’s a long list of nonprofits collecting tax-deductible donations.

Whether it’s Giving Tuesday, December 31, or any other day of the year, start here to support organizations serving Kensington and nearby neighborhoods.

Oftentimes, local, national, and international news outlets bring widespread attention to quality-of-life issues in Kensington, but they don't always share how their readers and viewers can help.

That's why we decided to compile a donation guide where people can find where they can donate their money to nonprofits serving Kensington and the surrounding neighborhoods, including Fairhill, Harrowgate, Norris Square, and Port Richmond.

Thanks to your help, we are excited to finally publish a list of over two dozen organizations providing various resources and services to the five neighborhoods in our coverage area.

For inclusion on our list, these organizations needed to meet the following criteria:

  • Accept monetary donations.
  • Be tax-exempt, meaning they're either registered as a nonprofit with the IRS or fiscally sponsored by an organization registered with the IRS.
  • Serve, either wholly or significantly, through consistent and recurring service provision, one of the following North Philly neighborhoods: Fairhill, Harrowgate, Kensington Norris Square, and Port Richmond.

Below, we've highlighted each organization's mission, general activities, contact information, and donation details. We've also provided a link to each organization's profile on ProPublica's Nonprofit Explorer.

The Nonprofit Explorer tool, developed by a team of data journalists, allows users to browse annual tax returns and other information, like executive compensation, expenses, revenue, and more.

If you know of an organization we missed, please fill out this form with their information so we can add it to our list. You can also message us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram or email us directly at editors@kensingtonvoice.com.

Also, be sure to check back from time to time since we plan to maintain this list as an "evergreen" resource, meaning we will keep it relevant to readers over a long period of time.
